Andre Onana, Donny van de Beek and Nicolas Tagliafico have all been linked with a move away from Ajax this summer. Edwin van der Sar has confirmed that agreements were in place with these players, but they will not be allowed to leave for a discounted price.
He told Reuters, “Last year we agreed with Onana, Tagliafico and Van de Beek to stay one more year and then look at the next step in their career. Nothing has changed. There won’t be a discount of fifty percent, just forget it.”
The Ajax director does not expect a mass exodus this summer, “Last year I heard in January that we would lose seven or eight players. Ultimately, only two key players left.”
Van der Sar also responded to comments from Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge that transfer fees could plummet this summer, “But it is easy to say for clubs like Bayern. They buy, while we sell.
“Of course transfers of 150 to 200 million euros are now a thing of the past. But players trained at Ajax still represent a great value: well trained and now with plenty of experience in European football.”
