Rafael van der Vaart believes the pressure is on Frank de Boer as Netherlands boss but thinks the coach is similar to Louis van Gaal.

On Wednesday, the KNVB confirmed De Boer as the new Netherlands head coach. His appointment is controversial given his poor record with Inter Milan, Crystal Palace and Atlanta United.

Speaking with FOX Sports, Rafael van der Vaart thinks De Boer is a similar coach to Louis van Gaal, “Van Gaal is absolutely the best trainer we have. I think everyone is also afraid of the stories, that he wants to change a lot and wants to make it his own. But let it be clear that he is the best trainer we have. But Frank was trained by him, he looks like Van Gaal and hopefully he will be successful. “

“Communication may not be his best thing, you could also see that at Goedemorgen Eredivisie (TV show). But he has so much football insight that those guys have a lot of respect for him and will be very happy with him.”

Van der Vaart thinks the pressure is on, “I don’t want to say that this is his last chance, but if this goes wrong, where can you still go? But Frank is a real winner. He hates losing, you can see that when he sits on the bench, but also with games. We need that, a winner. The boys are already so well attuned to each other and the staff remains intact, so I think we can continue on the same foot. ”
