The news that Van der Vaart is set to leave Hamburg will not come as a surprise with the Dutchman in and out of the first team this season, and on wages of €3.5 million a year, he is a burden on the Bundesliga strugglers wage bill.
Van der Vaart initially joined Hamburg from Ajax in 2005, but after three years in Germany he left for spells with Real Madrid and Tottenham before returning to HSV in 2012. Since his return the midfielder has made 73 appearances, scoring 18 goals.
According to NOS there are no concrete offers for the 32-year-old, who has 109 caps for Netherlands, but he has been heavily linked with a return to Ajax, while clubs from Italy and Spain are also interested.
