The veteran seems to have no future at Real Betis and is looking for a move away from the Spanish club this summer. Speaking to Fox Sports, he said last week, “As everyone knows, they don’t want me there. I’ll go and train and see what happens. If I don’t leave in the end, I want to earn my place in the team.
“I have a trainer in Amsterdam and I’m training hard with him every day. There is contact with other clubs, but nothing concrete.”
According to getreading, English Championship side Reading FC, who are coached by Jaap Stam are hoping to lure the 33-year-old back to England and have begun “informal talks” with van der Vaart. The article states that van der Vaart hasn’t ruled out the move, but it may be unlikely due to his wage demands.
Van der Vaart started his career with Ajax before spells with Hamburg, Real Madrid, Tottenham and Real Betis.
