The Dutch centre-back has had an excellent first season in the Premier League and Southampton announced on Saturday that van Dijk had put pen to paper on a new contract which will keep him with the club until 2022.
Van Dijk told the Southampton official website, “I’m so pleased, I’m so happy. Me and my family have enjoyed it a lot this year. It’s been amazing. It’s only positive.
“The club is growing and I definitely want to grow with them, that’s how I feel. Hopefully, we can make it happen. That’s the plan, to get a lot of achievements going.”
The 24-year-old signed for Southampton last summer from Celtic and has made 32 league appearances for the club, scoring three times.
