Virgil van Dijk wasn’t bothered about Netherlands performance on Saturday in the 0-0 draw with Northern Ireland. Sealing a place at the Euros was all that mattered to the Oranje captain.

Netherlands only needed a draw on Saturday and they achieved that in Belfast. A 0-0 draw booked their place at a major tournament for the first time since 2014.

Oranje captain Virgil van Dijk spoke to Voetbal International, “We’re going to a final tournament again, that’s the most important thing.

“We wanted to win today and also had opportunities. We knew it would be difficult today, but in the end we placed ourselves. How, that doesn’t really matter much. ”

Van Dijk was happy with Netherlands defensive security during the game, “The last fifteen minutes, Northern Ireland started to play more directly, hoping for free kicks and corners. Then it is up to us to stay sharp and we have done very well at times. We tried to hit the counter, but alright. Let us not talk too extensively about that. We are going to the European Championship, let’s just enjoy it now. From now on we will prepare ourselves well for that. “
