Van Dijk has played against Ake on several occasions when Liverpool meet Bournemouth, while the two meet up regularly with the Dutch national team.
Speaking to Daily Echo, Van Dijk heaped praise on Ake, “First of all, he is a great boy. I speak to him regularly with the national team and I also think he is a fantastic player. On Saturday (March 7, when Liverpool played against Bournemouth), He also showed that and also felt that he started to play better with the captaincy. It’s good to see he’s developing.”
Ake has been linked with several top clubs and with Bournemouth fighting a relegation battle, the Dutchman’s future is unclear. Van Dijk thinks his fellow Dutchman will be fine though, “I don’t know what’s going to happen to him at Bournemouth. You’ll have to wait and see, but I’m not worried about that at all. He’s got the qualities, but now you have to have more than that. He’s still very young, gets better and you never know what’s going to happen.
“It all depends on how the season will end for Bournemouth, but I am very positive about him. He is a fantastic boy and player.”
