The centre back was heavily linked with Liverpool during the summer, but despite handing in a transfer request, Southampton blocked van Dijk from leaving.
Van Dijk returned to the Southampton starting line-up at the weekend and was then called up to the Netherlands squad days later. On arrival at the Oranje team hotel, Van Dijk told Fox Sports that he didn’t regret handing in a transfer request and hinted he is open to leaving Southampton in January.
He said, “I’m glad I’m fit again and I can give up 100 percent.
I’m not sorry for anything. Of course, I wanted to make a step up, but Southampton did not want me to sell me, but you’re a professional, so now I’ll give everything to the club.
“Halfway through the season, maybe we can see what’s possible.”
