van d celticThe young Dutch centre back earned a reputation as one of the toughest defenders in the Eredivisie last season, and in Scotland the 22 year old is beginning to impress.

With Celtic now joint top of the Scottish Premier league, and unbeaten in all their six league games, Van Dijk has formed an impressive partnership with Efe Ambrose.

During midweek, Van Dijk also put in a classy performance in Celtic’s 2-0 defeat to AC Milan in the Champions League, as the Dutchman helped keep Mario Balotelli quiet for most of the game.

Both goals scored by Milan could not be prevented by the tall centre back, and Van Dijk earned good reviews for his performance by the Scottish press.

If the defender can keep up his current form, then a call up to the Dutch national team may not be far away, with centre back a problem are for Louis van Gaal’s side.

Other Dutch recruit Derk Boerrigter is still finding his feet in Scotland since his move from Ajax in the summer, and is yet to establish himself in the starting eleven.

The speedy winger has been guilty of missing opportunities in the matches he has played, and will need to step up his form to impress the Parkhead faithful.
