Virgil van Dijk was on the scoresheet as Liverpool defeated Bayern Munich 3-1 to progress to the Champions League quarter finals.

With the scoreline at 0-0 from the first-leg there was everything to play for in Munich. Bayern were without Arjen Robben, while van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum both started for Liverpool.

After 26 minutes, van dijk set up Sadio Mane to put Liverpool ahead but Joel Matip scored an own goal to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Then in the 69th minute, Van Dijk rose to head in a corner to restore Liverpool’s lead before Mane sealed a 3-1 victory.

Liverpool take their place in the final eight of the competition along with Barcelona who beat Memphis Depay’s Lyon 5-1 in the Nou Camp to seal their progression.

It was a frustrating night for Memphis, who was substituted with the score at 2-1.
