For the first time since completing his record breaking £75 million move from Southampton, Van Dijk was named in the Liverpool starting line-up for the visit of Everton.
The Dutch international strolled through the first half which saw Liverpool take the lead through a James Milner penalty.
In the second half, Gylfi Sigurdsson equalised but with six minutes to go, Van Dijk headed past Jordan Pickford to cap his debut with a winning goal.
