The Netherlands captain was forced off after ten minutes due to a late challenge by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Van Dijk has now gone for a scan at a hospital to see how serious the knee issue is.
It is feared that the defender could be out for a while. Liverpool face Ajax in the Champions League next week.
Best wishes for Virgil
If it’s really 7-8 months as is currently being suggested, that’s a disaster for the NT. Even if he’s healed by June for the Euros, he will not have played any recent games and will be lacking in rhythm. With all respect to De Vrij and De Ligt, good as they are neither is in VVD’s class.
For a team already struggling with life under Frank De Boer, things look quite ominous ATM.
PS – Pickford needs some kind of suspension. Not saying he intended to injure, but that was just too rash.
