Netherlands boss Danny Blind criticised Memphis for his lack of teamwork during his press conference on Monday, where he confirmed the Manchester United number seven would not be part of his squad for the ties with Wales and Germany.
It comes after several poor performances from the winger which has seen him dropped to the bench by Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal. However the United boss has backed Memphis, who he believes is the biggest talent at his age, to bounce back stronger after a dip in his form.
Van Gaal said, “I have said that he is the greatest talent of his age but he is also only 21 and that is also an age you cannot expect consistency.
“He is also in a phase of his career where he has to adapt to many things so I have expected this. But I am convinced he is coming back, maybe stronger than before.
“But we have to give him time, like Anthony Martial. But maybe Martial will continue scoring goals and help us to win matches, but I expect him to also have a dip in form.”
