Louis van Gaal confirmed his retirement as a guest on VTBL on Sunday evening.

The 67-year-old has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester United in 2016 but has turned down several jobs including Feyenoord recently.

As a guest on VTBL, Van Gaal said, “I am retired”

Asked about a role as a technical director, van Gaal said, “As a technical director you are not allowed to come to the training sessions or say something because according to the trainer, the board or the media it’s not up to me. If I am a technical director, I am responsible for the technical policy and I think I can do that, Do I have the ambition for such a function? I do not think so. ”

The former Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Netherlands boss revealed he is giving up football to spend more time with his wife, “My wife gave up her work 22 years ago and followed me abroad, and I said I would retire as a trainer when I was 55. I kept going to 65. I can not go on and on and on. She is also entitled to a life with Louis van Gaal and not just the players, I can say she is very happy.”
