Louis van Gaal has revealed that he was close to managing Tottenham Hotspur before he accepted Manchester United’s offer in 2014.

After leaving Netherlands following the 2014 World Cup, Van Gaal took charge of Manchester United. However, he was also in talks with Tottenham Hotspur.

The talks were secret with Tottenham and Van Gaal has revealed that the Premier League club’s director Daniel Levy visited his house for talks before leaving in the trunk of a car because a journalist was outside.

He told the podcast ‘Een-Tweetje met Yves‘ by Yves Gyrath, which had quotes released on De Telegraaf, “Levy went to my house here in Noordwijk and was taken away in the trunk, because Jack van Gelder was outside.

Van Gaal was ready to take over at Spurs, but Levy took too long and eventually the Dutchman ended up with Manchester United, “It took a long time and he (Levy) Actually gave Manchester United the opportunity to make an offer as well.”
