Van Gaal guided Manchester United to an FA Cup win on Sunday, but just minutes after the trophy was lifted news broke from several English journalists that the Dutchman’s time at the club is coming to an end.
The BBC is reporting that Manchester United will sack van Gaal on Monday before appointing Jose Mourinho later in the week.
Speaking in his post match press conference van Gaal was defiant, “I show you the cup and I don’t discuss it (my future) with my friends of the media, who already sacked me for six months. Which manager can do what I have done?”
Van Gaal was appointed Manchester United coach in 2014 after leaving the Dutch national team and guided the club to 4th place in his first season. However, the fan base has grown weary of the coach’s tactics during this campaign and failure to finish in the top 4 seems to have cost the 64-year-old his job.
