Since Danny Blind was sacked as Netherlands head coach, Louis van Gaal’s name has been mentioned as a possible successor. The 65-year-old has also been linked with a higher role at the KNVB as a CEO.
Speaking to De Telegraaf, van Gaal, “That (director of football model) is part of the structure of the KNVB, but they need to find a new national team coach first.
“A return as national team coach? I will answer that question if the KNVB ask it…”
Van Gaal also stated that the Netherlands players were to blame for recent results, not Danny Blind, “Blind should take some of the blame, but the players were at fault the most.
“The players never get mentioned anywhere, though…”
Van Gaal has already coached the Dutch national team twice, and led them to the World Cup semi-finals in 2014.
Well if we’re going to get the same football as we saw at Man Utd I’d be looking elsewhere.
hahaha…..I had him at barcelona….I wanted to strangle him… but he shined when you least expected.
euro 2000. world Cup 2014
This is a good news.
Holland needs a foreign coach. have a look at the Belgium national team. Ranieri can be a good fit for Holland. Or bring back Van Marwijk
I’ll pass on Ranieri. He was awful with Greece before he came to Leicester. Van Marwijk is already going to the World Cup….with Saudi Arabia.
Van Gaal is right about the players being responsible. The midfield performance against Bulgaria was abysmal, especially when you consider that Strootman and Wijnaldum are supposed to be the “leaders” of current generation.
But if anyone can get the best out of the players (however limited the quality is at present), its Van Gaal. I know it’s probably only a short-term thing but I don’t see a better option at the moment.
