Van Gaal is the odds on favourite to be named as the replacement for the sacked David Moyes, and De Telegraaf reported last week that the deal to take the Dutchman to Old Trafford was already done.
However the newspaper’s chief sports reporter Jaap de Groot has now stated the deal’s announcement is being held up by Louis van Gaal’s wishlist of staff he wants to recruit.
De Groot says that “Sources from the club” have told him Van Gaal wants to recruit five members of staff to complete his team, but Manchester United directors are not happy with this demand. United bosses want members of the “Class of 92” like Ryan Giggs or Nicky Butt to have coaching roles, and this has proved a stumbling block.
De Telegraaf still maintain a deal has been agreed between Van Gaal himself and Manchester United, but it seems there will be a wait before the deal, if it happens, will be confirmed.
