Louis van Gaal thinks his Netherlands side have a good chance to win the World Cup but he sees four nations as big competitors.

Van Gaal held his press conference on Friday after naming his squad and he said he is looking forward to the tournament, “I think this is the greatest gift I’ve ever had in my life. I receive the group with a certain vision. I’ve been putting pressure on them from day one and letting them know what I want from them. That’s where we’re going to work.”

On Monday the team comes together and Van Gaal’s goal is clear, “I planned a meeting, not only with the players but also with all the staff members. Then we have three speakers who say something about the structure and the rules. And that we only have one goal and that is to become world champions. Nice, isn’t it.”

Van Gaal is clear that nothing less than the trophy is his goal, “The goals of the KNVB are written quarterfinals, I thought. I think that’s a realistic goal. But we don’t have to agree with each other, I’ve already explained that. We have a good chance of becoming world champions. There are few trainers who dare to speak out like that, but I say this. World champion is my goal.”

In terms of Netherlands main rivals, Van Gaal named four, “Brazil and Argentina probably have the best quality. I also think that France has high quality. There are many players injured, which can also be disappointing. In terms of team spirit, I think we have a chance, but so does Germany.”
