Kuyt led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title on Sunday with a hat-trick which downed Heracles 3-1 and confirmed the club as champions for the first time in 18 years. However, with Kuyt out of contract this summer that may have been his final game for the Rotterdammers.

Speaking at Feyenoord’s title celebrations in Rotterdam, Martin van Geel confirmed to NOS that talks have been held with Kuyt and that he wanted the 36-year-old to remain.

Van Geel said, “Kuyt must always for Feyenoord be kept.

“I have a lot of contact with him and I have always indicated: Keep playing football for as long as possible, that is the best there is. But if you stop, the doors will always open for you, because you must stay at Feyenoord in a role that suits you. ”

Van Geel then summed up how much the club loves Kuyt by stating, “This man is invaluable.”
