Marco van Ginkel has officially signed a new deal with Chelsea.

The midfielder has spent the last two years out injured and was set to be a free agent this summer. However, Chelsea still sees a future with the Dutchman, and van Ginkel has signed a new one-year deal, with the option of another year.

Speaking to the Wasserman’s website, van Ginkel said, “I am proud to have been able to renew my contract despite having been out for such a long time. That the club wants to continue with me gives me a boost. There is confidence and despite the fact that I have been standing aside for a while due to injuries and some serious setbacks, the club apparently sees it in me.”

Van Ginkel confirmed he may be going out on loan again with his recovery going well, “Fortunately, the recovery is now going smoothly, although of course I have had to be patient for the past few years. As it looks now, I will join Chelsea’s Under 23 team in July, at the same time looking at possible rental options. I am really looking forward to getting back to work. “

The 27-year-old has only made four appearances for Chelsea since joining from Vitesse back in 2013. He also had loans with Stoke City, AC Milan and most recently PSV Eindhoven.
