van marwijk bThe German club confirmed that Van Marwijk had been given his marching orders after Hamburg slipped to a 4-2 loss to Eintracht Braunschweig earlier on Saturday.

The defeat leaves the club 17th in the Bundesliga, with only Braunschweig below them, and two points away from safety.

The job was Van Marwijk’s first since leaving Netherlands in 2012, but he was in charge of only three wins, while Hamburg have lost their last seven league games in a row.

Last week, Felix Magath was rumoured to be taking over at the club, but after Hamburg directors gave Van Marwijk a vote of confidence, Magath instead joined Fulham.

Martin Jol has been linked with the Hamburg position recently, and could be a contender to take over the club which contains three Dutch players, Rafael van der Vaart, Ola John, and Ouasim Bouy.
