Van Persie signed his one-and-a-half-year contract in Rotterdam on Monday morning before holding a press conference in front of the press.

He said, ”I am delighted to be back at Feyenoord. It is a new phase in my career. I am really excited about it.

”If I look back on my 14 years abroad it was a great experience. My wife and family are looking forward to this new adventure.

”I received a lot of positive reactions from players and friends. I am pleased about that.”

On his current fitness, Van Persie added, ”I had a good pre-season but after injury I was out for 3 months. I eventually went on to train with the Fenerbahce squad again and after that I trained on my own. You become fit by training hard and playing in games and that is my objective in the coming weeks.

”I trained for the first time with the Feyenoord squad this morning and I was pleased to be out on the training pitch. We trained well too.

”The is a possibility that I will be part of the squad for the Eredivisie match away to FC Utrecht on Wednesday. But we will know more about that tomorrow.”
