Feyenoord were knocked out of the KNVB Cup by Ajax on Wednesday which ended the chances of Robin van Persie lifting one more trophy before he retires. However, the striker did not mourn the defeat.

Van Persie has already announced that he will retire at the end of the season and was hoping the KNVB Cup would be his final trophy. However, the forward only played 66 minutes of the semi-final which saw Ajax down Feyenoord 3-0 in De Kuip.

After the match, Fox Sports asked van Persie if he was disappointed to miss out on one last trophy. He said, “Of course you are disappointed in the result, but I won finals, lost finals. I am grateful and proud, my career is an award in itself.

“I see it broader. I came back to Feyenoord and for me it was a positive experience. You win together and you lose together.”
