United’s form this season has been much better without Robin Van Persie. With Wayne Rooney succeeding over the Dutchman and expensive loanee Radamel Falcao, there has been much talk about United off-loading the 32-year old striker before he can leave on a free transfer next summer.
A source close to Van Persie told the Daily Mail that he still feels he can contribute to United’s title push next season, and is fine knowing Rooney may be the number one choice up-top for United.
The striker has been linked with teams in both Turkey and Italy, where the aging number 9 would have both an easier schedule and opponents, but even after 15 years at the top-flight, the striker still strives to compete at the highest level.
Van Persie, who is regaining fitness after an injury, will have hoped to impress boss Louis van Gaal by scoring two goals in Manchester United reserve’s win over Fulham on Tuesday night.
