The right-back joined Heerenveen last summer on a free transfer from AZ Alkmaar and made 23 appearances for the club.
Van Rhijn only had a one year contract and it will not be renewed after discussions between both parties.
Heerenveen technical manager Gerry Hamstra told the club’s website, “We recently had several conversations and made the choice not to continue after this season.
“We appreciate the role that Ricardo has played in the group this season with his experience. Both as a footballer and as a person. We wish him every success in the next step in his career. “
Van Rhijn is now looking for his fifth club after spells with Ajax, Club Brugge, AZ and Heerenveen. The 28-year-old may opt for another transfer abroad.
