The 28-year-old rejoined Vitesse last summer from Norwich City but leaves after only a year at the club to sign a 3-year contract with FC Basel. According to De Telegraaf, Basel has paid Vitesse €5 million for the striker, who netted 20 league goals last season and scored twice in the Cup final win over AZ.
Van Wolfswinkel told the website soccervision, “I leave with a heavy heart, but this opportunity I could not let run.”
Van Wolfswinkel succeeds former Twente striker Marc Janko at Basel and joins fellow Dutchman Jean-Paul Boetius who is on the books at the club.
