Verhaar was an integral part of Sparta Rotterdam championship winning side last season where he was named player of the season in the Jupiler League thanks in part to his 24 goals which helped Sparta Rotterdam on their way back to the Eredivisie.
Verhaar said, ”I was delighted to score my first goal in the Eredivisie and today I managed to play in a similar way to last season and I could not wait to score my first goal. We played well in the first half as a team and I received a lot of room to do what I am good at (utilizing space and driving the team forward).
” I was pleased to be in the starting lineup today and I admit that I was impatient on the sidelines in our previous games this season. I could only train really hard and await my chance.
” Naturally if a team wants to reach a higher level then the competition for places only gets more competitive and I can only congratulate my teammates on their start to the season.
”We had to work hard today and remain disciplined and that why it maybe looked easier for us during the game but that was not the case. To play a game in such a manner demands a lot of concentration ,movement and stamina”.
