Vermeer has been one of Feyenoord’s most consistent performers this season with some terrific performances and has been rewarded with a two-year extension. Vermeer’s existing contract had been due to expire in 2018 but his new deal will now run until 2020.
The goalkeeper arrived from Ajax two years ago, having spent nine seasons at the Amsterdam club, and became the Feyenoord number one choice straight away, forcing Erwin Mulder to move to Heerenveen in order to seek first team football.
After winning the KNVB Beker with Feyenoord this season, Vermeer is keen to build on the success and challenge for major honours in coming seasons with Feyenoord. Speaking about his contract renewal, Vermeer said “I am very much at home at Feyenoord. That, together with the club’s sporting ambitions, is why I want to stay here. Winning the cup was great, but as a team we want to achieve more success. I would like to be part of that in the next few years.”
Vermeer joins Karim El Ahmadi, Dirk Kuyt and Lucas Woudenberg in extending their Feyenoord contracts as the squad continues to take shape for next season.
