The defender’s contract with Tottenham Hotspur expires this summer and the Belgian’s future is up in the air. Vertonghen was linked with a move back to Ajax in January, but De Telegraaf reported that the 32-year-old was too expensive.
Speaking to OpVier, presented by Kat Kerkhofs, the wife of Dries Mertens, Vertonghen was asked if he would return to Ajax one day. He responded, “Who knows. It’s always been sort of in the planning, yes.”
Vertonghen left Ajax for Tottenham in 2012 after making 220 appearances in Amsterdam.
