Since making his first team debut in 2012, Vilhena was a regular for coach Ronald Koeman and up until the start of this season had made 74 appearances at the age of 19. The midfielder impressed with dominating performances, and Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal even named him in the provisional squad for last summer’s World Cup, but he was cut late on.
However since Fred Rutten took over in the summer, the now 20-year-old has had his path to the first team blocked by new signing’s Jens Toornstra and Karim El Ahmadi, limiting him to 12 league appearances, mostly from the bench.
Now it seems Vilhena is fed up of his bit part role, and according to AD he wants to leave Rotterdam as soon as possible, and has no interest in extending his current contract, which runs until 2016.
Italian side Napoli have been linked with interest in the Netherlands U21 international, but according to boss Fred Rutten there is “No concrete interest.”
Vilhena will now have to sit and wait to see if any club are willing to pay a high fee to end his Feyenoord frustration.
