Feyenoord took another step towards the title with a simple win 2-0over Vitesse Arnhem.

Feyenoord went into the game knowing a win coupled with PSV beating Ajax later in the day would put them four points clear at the top with two games left.

They started the game brightly against the hosts, who may have all their attention on next weeks cup final with AZ Alkmaar. On nine minutes, Jens Toornstra was played through on goal but his strike was deflected wide. From the resulting corner, Toornstra volleyed the ball back at the back post to Nicolai Jorgensen, who tapped in his 20th league goal of the season.

Vitesse failed to react and on 27 minutes, Jorgensen netted his second with a close-range header which Eloy Room couldn’t stop from crossing the line. Jorgensen was inches away from getting his hat-trick moments later before Steven Berghuis saw his shot strike the inside of the post. Feyenoord continued to swarm forward and Room stopped Bart Nieuwkoop one-on-one and the goalkeeper then tipped a Berghuis strike just wide.

Feyenoord kept control after the break but they were given a wake-up call on 67 minutes when Brad Jones had to make a fingertip save to deny Milot Rashica. However, that was the only danger that Vitesse posed as Feyenoord comfortably saw out the win.

Feyenoord now await to see the result from PSV v Ajax later on Sunday and will be hoping for a home win which would all but confirm the title as theirs. Vitesse stay six but their biggest game of the season comes next weekend in the cup final against AZ.
