Its only one win in six matches for Vitesse as they were held to a 1-1 draw in Arnhem by Heerenveen.

heeveitVitesse started the match in a special kit to commemorate the 70 year anniversary of the battle of Arnhem, and they began the match on top with Marko Vejinovic forcing Kristoffer Nordfeldt into a good stop with a powerful effort from range.

However it was Heerenveen who took the lead on 23 minutes when Mark Uth smashed a shot into the top corner past a shocked Piet Velthuizen from a tight angle.

The lead only lasted seven minutes as Davy Propper slid the ball into the net from just inside the box after Heerenveen failed to clear. It should have been 2-1 for Vitesse shortly afterwards but Kelvin Leerdam could only fire wide with only Nordfeldt to beat.

The second half was end to end with both keepers having to make several saves. Nordfeldt stopped a Wallace shot heading for the top corner while Velthuizen denied both Luciano Slagveer and Uth.

Heerenveen had the best chance to win all three points in the final minute when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box but Marten de Roon fired just wide.

The point keeps up Heerenveen’s good start to the season and they sit 4th while Vitesse remain 17th.
