The first half saw little action with Heracles goalkeeper Bram Castro called into action once to deny a volley by Nathan while at the other end Brahim Darri fired wide.
After the break Vitesse pushed forward and two minutes after Matt Miazga hit the bar with a header they took the lead through Ricky van Wolfswinkel. The striker received the ball in the box from Milot Rashica and fired past Castro.
However, the lead was short lived with Darri equalising four minutes later with an excellent strike into the top corner from just outside the box. Samuel Armenteros then gave Heracles the lead from the penalty spot after Guram Kashia brought down Brandley Kuwas.
Vitesse couldn’t find a way back and Heracles held on for three points which move them up to 12th.
