The first match at the Gelredome this season started with a scare for the home side as Farshad Noor saw an effort come off the post after being cleverly set up by Anco Jansen.
Vitesse improved after the warning, but both Abiola Dauda and Valeri Qazaishvili passed up great opportunities, while Roda JC were always threatening on the counter attack.
Just before half time the game swung in Vitesse’s favour as Roda JC were reduced to ten men after Ard van Peppen handled a Guram Kashia header on the line, resulting in a penalty which was struck into the net by Lewis Baker.
Kashia headed against the bar early in the second half before Vitesse eventually made it 2-0 on 68 minutes as Dauda raced onto Kevin Diks fine through ball before firing past Benjamin van Leer. It was 3-0 before the end as substitute Nathan curled a lovely shot into the top corner after bursting through two defenders.
The win puts Vitesse temporarily top with four points, while Roda JC taste defeat for the first time this season.
