Vitesse have confirmed the signing of Augsburg striker Tim Matavz on a three-year deal.

The Arnhem club were in need of a new striker since Ricky van Wolfswinkel joined Basel, and there was links with Luc Castaignos and Samuel Armenteros. However, on Thursday, Vitesse confirmed that former PSV Eindhoven forward Tim Matavz had joined the club from Bundesliga side Augsburg on a three-year deal.

Matavz told the club’s official website, “My greatest achievements I had while I lived in the Netherlands. That’s why I’m glad I again get the chance to get show my ability here.”

The 28-year-old spent four years with Groningen, scoring 34 league goals, before he moved to PSV in 2011. He scored 24 times in 70 league games in Eindhoven and then moved to Augsburg in 2014. However, the Slovenian has barely featured for Augsburg since, and has spent time on loan with Genoa and Nurnberg over the past year.
