Undefeated Vitesse Arnhem condemned PEC Zwolle to their third straight defeat. Leonid Slutsky’s side won 3-0.

Before the match kicked-off, Vitesse paid tribute to former fan favourite Dejan Curovic, who sadly passed away this week. In the 14th minute, the home crowd also applauded their former hero.

Vitesse looked the better side from the start but they struggled to create any clear chances. Vyacheslav Karavaev shot over the bar, while Xander Mous denied Bryan Linssen.

Early in the second half, Vitesse were awarded a penalty when Linssen’s header hit Etiënne Reijnen in the arm. Matavz saw his spot-kick saved by Mous before Linssen followed up to net. Rob Dieperink disallowed the goal for encroachment after consulting VAR but because a PEC Zwolle defender also entered the box, the spot-kick was re-taken. This time Matavz scored to make it 1-0.

Twelve minutes later, Karavaev was played in on goal by Matavz and he calmly fired low past Mous to make it 2-0. Linssen then settled the game with a powerful close range finish with ten minutes left.

PEC Zwolle slip to the bottom of the table with their third straight defeat. Vitesse, who remain undefeated, move up to the top of the table on seven points.
