Chelsea announced the signing of the Porto winger on a five year deal for a fee of around £3.5 million, and then stated that the player will join up with Vitesse Arnhem for the rest of the season.
The 21 year old becomes the 5th player to join Vitesse from the London club this summer, after Gael Kakuta, Patrick van Aanholt, Christian Cuevas, and Lucas Piazon.
Atsu joined Porto in 2010 from Cheetah FC in his native Ghana, and quickly rose through the clubs youth ranks, winning their young player of the year award in 2011. A year on loan at Rio Ave followed, where he made 30 appearances, and scored six goals.
Last season, Atsu broke into the Porto first team, making 17 league appearances as his club won the title, whilst also starring in the Champions League.
A Ghana international, Atsu currently has 16 caps, scoring three goals, including one in the 2013 African Cup of Nations against Niger.
Regarded as one of the finest prospects around Europe, Atsu’s signing is a good one for Vitesse, who will look to challenge for the European places this season.
