The 30-year-old’s contract at Villa Park ends this summer, but the club announced today that they have offered Vlaar a new and improved deal as they look to avoid the defender leaving for free. However the Dutch international has indicated to Fox Sports that he is looking to make a move.
Vlaar said on the contract offer, “I have it in consideration.”
“I’ll think about it. I want to maximise my career and think I can go a step higher.”
Aston Villa signed Vlaar from Feyenoord back in 2012, and the centre back has gone on to make 77 Premier League appearances, and played in the FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal last month.
Vlaar is currently on Netherlands duty, and could be in action against Latvia this Friday, if he recovers from injury on time.
