Under new manager Hans de Koning, VVV have now gone five unbeaten, and their performance against Heracles was a product of hard work and defensive solidity, rather than free-flowing, attacking football.
Excitement came at a premium for both sets of fans, but it was VVV who struck the only goal of the game before half-time. Captain Danny Post was set up by Johnatan Opoku to side-foot home via a deflection, which proved to be VVV’s only shot on-target all game.
Heracles winger Silvester van de Water arguably had the visitors’ best shot of the game; he turned in the area to fire low across goal.
The second half saw Heracles have more of the ball. However, some poor final passes meant they failed to carve out any more meaningful opportunities.
In the final ten minutes, VVV were awarded a penalty following a foul to John Yeboah. A lengthy pause in the game though saw the referee overturn his own decision. The score remained 1-0 and VVV rise to fourteenth before other sides play around them. Heracles are 10th.
