VVV, who left new signing Romeo Castelen on the bench, started well and nearly took the lead on four minutes, but Lennart Thy fluffed his chance.
ADO Den Haag then took control and eventually the lead on 20 minutes through Bjorn Johnsen, who turned Danny Bakker’s shot past Lars Unnerstall.
Thy and Torino Hunte missed good chances for the visitors as ADO Den Haag took a slender lead into the break. The home side started the second half brightly, but Unnerstall prevented Sheraldo Becker and then Erik Falkenburg from doubling their lead.
Twenty minutes before the end, VVV got a great chance but Vito van Crooij’s header came back off the post. In the 82nd minute, VVV did find the leveller as Opoku raced in on goal before slotting past Robert Zwinkels.
VVV could have won it before the end but Zwinkels made an excellent save to deny Ralf Seuntjens.
The point keeps ADO Den Haag in eighth while VVV are 10th.
