After the midweek defeat in the Europa League against Lazio, Vitesse looked a bit tired but they still dominated a goalless first half with both Tim Matavz and Bryan Linssen going close.
Just after the break, the hosts did break the deadlock through Matavz, who broke through the VVV defence before slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
Linssen and Thomas Bruns came close to a second for Vitesse, but they couldn’t kill the game off and were made to pay in the 90th minute. Guram Kashia conceded a penalty and Clint Leemans slotted it past Remko Pasveer to earn VVV an unlikely point.
Vitesse are now fifth with ten points while VVV sit ninth with eight.
