Evert Linthorst struck late on as VVV Venlo defeated Groningen 2-1.

New recruit John Yeboah was handed his debut for VVV Venlo and the Wolfsburg loanee made a big impression. In the 12th minute, the forward broke through on the left before sending a low strike into the net from a tight angle.
A minute before the break, Groningen equalised as Ajdin Hrustic hammered a strike past VVV goalkeeper Thorsten Kirschbaum from outside the box.
Groningen dominated the second half but could not find the net. Hrustic went closest with a free-kick that hit the post.
The game seemed to be heading for a draw but in the 84th minute, Evert Linthorst nodded in from close range to give VVV the three points.
VVV sit eighth after their third win of the campaign while Groningen are 14th.
