Sneijder is one cap behind record holder Edwin van Der Sar and he told NOS how special it would be to break the most caps record on his birthday when the Netherlands play Luxembourg in a World Cup qualifier on June 9th.

Sneijder said, ”I still have commitments to my club and I must fulfil them. I had the time and the room to play these upcoming friendly games with the permission from my club which is fantastic.

”I want to play every national team game I can and that is not just to achieve the record of most capped player for Oranje. But if I can break the most caps record on my birthday then that would be special.

”As I am getting older I am becoming stronger. I have had a fantastic time in Turkey and I cannot speak highly enough of my club Galatasaray for what they have done for me these past 5 years.

”I have a good relationship with the club, president and the board. I am also grateful to them for letting me join up with the national team whilst we still have club commitments in Turkey.”
