Georginio Wijnaldum is feeling good about Frank de Boer’s Netherlands and feels the atmosphere has not changed with the national team.

The midfielder was speaking with the media ahead of Netherlands clash with Mexico on Wednesday.

Wijnaldum is happy with the atmosphere under Frank de Boer, “The first days were good. As far as I am concerned, nothing has changed and everything is the same as before. So far there is no different atmosphere within the group.

“We had a meeting on Monday evening where he said a few things and that was positive. It was about how he thinks about football, about where we can improve and about what is going well.”

Wijnaldum was asked about Mohamed Ihattaren, who is going through a difficult period with PSV. He was due to be in the Netherlands squad but had to pull out with a groin injury.

Wijnaldum said, “I wanted to talk to him, I could also have sent him an app, but I wanted to do it face to face to ask what the situation is at PSV. Of course, we read everything in the media, you do not know what is true and why the situation is as it is now. Mo is a very good boy, I met him for the first time in the previous international period. I would have liked to ask him what the situation is exactly, whether I could give him advice or tell him how I viewed it. Unfortunately, he is not there.”
