Last season, Wijnaldum was regularly criticised by Newcastle United fans for his performances away from St James Park as the club were relegated from the Premier League. Since his move to Liverpool, the midfielder has improved his form but he still hasn’t found the net in a Premier League away match.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Wijnaldum has hit back at those claiming he can’t perform in away games, “That is people’s opinion. I think I also play good in away games, especially this season.

“It is funny because last season we didn’t perform at a level as a whole team in away games for Newcastle but I was the only one who got the complaints. It is a team thing and no-one can do it by themselves.”

Wijnaldum has played 25 league games for Liverpool this season, scoring four times and adding four assists. All four of those goals and three assists have come at Anfield.
