According to The Athletic, Georginio Wijnaldum is no closer to signing a new deal with Liverpool.

The Dutch international has been a key player for the Premier League leaders this season, but the midfielder only has a contract until 2021.

Talks between the club and player have been ongoing for months, but The Athletic is reporting that a new deal is no closer. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is desperate for the situation to be solved as he does not want to lose Wijnaldum.

The 29-year-old joined Liverpool in 2016 from Newcastle United and has made 177 appearances for the club. He was recently linked with a move to Italian side Inter Milan.
