The Dutchman netted twice on Sunday’s 5-1 win over Tottenham, taking his tally for the season to eleven goals. However, the midfielder was unable to prevent the club from finishing in the bottom three and dropping down to the Championship.
Afterwards, the former PSV captain was asked about his future with Newcastle United but stated he was not thinking about it yet.
He is quoted by VI saying, “With my own future, I’m not busy. I’m devastated about relegation, that is the only thing on my mind now. We’ll see what the future brings. ”
Wijnaldum is not the only Dutchman who’s future is up in the air at Newcastle, with doubts over Daryl Janmaat, Vurnon Anita, Tim Krul and Siem de Jong, who could all be looking for new clubs this summer.
