Georginio Wijnaldum is happy to play for the Netherlands as much as possible despite a busy club schedule. He has also spoken about Virgil van Dijk’s injury.

The domestic schedule is seeing some players playing three times in a week, and there are now three Netherlands international matches in the next week.

Speaking to Voetbal International, Wijnaldum said, “We play three international matches and that costs energy. But as a football player I think it is great to play many matches with the Dutch national team. Everyone who is now with Oranje is happy with these international matches. At the moment I feel very good and very fit. But we are only at the beginning of the season. I don’t know what it will be like later. Whether I get a message from Liverpool? Yes, that I have to come back fit. Nothing more.”

Wijnaldum’s Liverpool and Netherlands teammate Virgil van Dijk is out for months with a serious knee injury. Asked about Van Dijk, Wijnaldum said, “Virgil will return with God’s will.

“It is a difficult time for him, this is the worst thing you can experience as a football player. You are going through hell. But I think he is very strong. We FaceTime every now and then and that is very pleasant.”
