The KNVB have urged Giliano Wijnaldum to press racism charges after he was abused on the road by his own supporters.

The incident came after Go Ahead Eagles match against FC Twente which they lost 1-3; afterwards the left back was physically and verbally threatened as well.
This is what the official spokesman of KNVB said, “Being an incident outside the stadium, and on the road, this case falls outside the jurisdiction of the professional football association, but the KNVB wants to prevent this sort of behavior. and we ourselves have taken the initiative. Police have been contacted. In addition, we have indicated that we consider it important that something is done about incident. ”
The player however has said that he does not want to press any charges, but has been made aware of the governing body’s stance.
This is what club chairman Edwin Lugt said,
“We leave it entirely up to him and support him 1,000 percent in his decision, Giliano would now like to again focus on football and is 100 percent committed to the preservation of the league status. We stand firmly behind him.”
